Why is recycling important? Here you'll scoop-up the most notable purposes to run with as you take pride in our planet and live life to the fullest! The short answer to why is recycling important:
In order to understand the five reasons we must recycle, let's discover the root cause of our massive eruption of waste!
I bought my first CD player around the age of 11, in 1985. I was certainly the first to have one in my circle of family and friends. It was a SONY that cost me over $325. I earned and saved the money to buy it, as a young entrepreneur.
It was a style that could be carried like a ghetto blaster, yet looked like a mini home theater system. And, it sounded incredible, although not as good as my parents home theater system.
Having repeatedly tortured my neighborhood and parents by rocking the block with my parents 15 year-old stereo system, it seemed things were built to last. I had just assumed, judging by the solid quality of their stereo, television, appliances, etc, that everything would last at least 25 years or more, before even needing repair.
Remember the Maytag repair man who never had to fix any Maytag's...ever?
Then however, after having my SONY less than three years, the CD player stopped working! I don't know why, it simply would not read the discs, even after repeated attempts to clean the laser. I took it to my local repair center and paid around $60 only to have it malfunction shortly thereafter again.
So, I just used the tape deck and the FM radio, until the tape deck got stuck and then I blew the speakers. Err! It lasted no more than four years. How could that be?
Needless to say I went without my own stereo for a while as I only knew of one option. Spend $1,100 on a new full rack stereo!
I thought things were built to last!
That would always be the case except for the tremendous outside force of the global banking system which ensures the squeezing of every living soul to earn more money by producing and selling more, etc., faster and faster in order to repay debt.
Banks create all of our money out of thin air when they lend it to us. They never create the interest that must be paid back in addition to the principal. Therefore, if everyone tried to pay back everything on the same day, it would be impossible because we'll always owe far more than exists!
"Fiat money."
If you know about this, I commend you. If you don't, I suggest looking it up, it's necessary to understand. Anyway, as a teenager I had no knowledge of such things. That came much later. Now it makes complete sense that the only outcome for this type of economic system is:
Just like what happened to me with my stereo above.
This being the case, businesses will always have no choice but to crank out cheaply made goods and sell them for as much as possible. Therefore, we're going to use up a lot of natural resources, faster and faster every year that passes.
Add to that an ever increasing population of consumers - you know what that spells? Trouble!
For a great idea that adds to the solution of this dilemma, read the
So why is recycling important?
Reason #1 is to Save Energy
You save energy by recycling, because in order for manufacturers to make products they must use pure raw commodities or materials. Those raw materials must be collected from our Earth. Energy and manpower required to power the machines that dig or mine for these commodities is saved.
Next, the commodities that have been dug for or mined for have to be refined and purified. Refining takes a large amount of additional energy and manpower. For example: Recycling one aluminum can uses 5% of the energy to make the same can from it's original form of bauxite ore.
Reason #2 is to Decrease Pollution
You decrease pollution when you recycle, because the machines and equipment that dig, mine for and refine the natural resources, to produce goods that you use, produce large amounts of CO2 pollution.
Reason #3 is to Improve the Environment
In addition, to decreasing pollution when you recycle, you also improve the environment, because toxic substances contained in many products we use everyday, will not be absorbed into our land, air and water supplies, like they are when they are buried in a landfill.
Reason #4 is to Preserve Natural Resources
You preserve natural resources simply because digging up new raw materials to produce new goods for your use, is not as necessary. So, your Earth gets to keep growing and evolving naturally, with much less atrophy.
Reason #5 is to Save Landfill Space
